Tips To Remove Blood Stains From Carpet

One of my pet owner clients asked for tips for removing blood stains. She told me, “I like to keep my living space clean, warm, and inviting. As a pet owner, this is challenging, but not impossible. What really helps is having my carpets cleaned regularly. In fact, my carpets were just cleaned a few days ago. Unfortunately, my cat went into heat, and I now have few blood spots on my carpet. I know how important it is to treat spots as soon as possible, but I can’t really call you to come out every time an accident happens. I just want to have confidence that what I’m doing is the correct thing and not making it worse. Can you provide me with some good instructions?”

How to Remove Blood Stains from Carpet

If the spot is not fresh, use a butter knife to gently loosen and remove dried surface material. If it is fresh, blot up as much as you can with a white rag or paper towel.

Mix about a tablespoon of detergent with protein enzymes (like ERA or Woolite) in a cup of cool water. Your best bet is to shake it up and use the suds only to treat the spots. Apply the suds solution directly to the spots with a clean white terry cloth.

When the spots are no longer visible, blot all excess moisture.
